What’s sustainable development?

It means ensuring that a ‘better life for us’ doesn’t mean worse lives for future generations. Sustainable development is about positive growth, making economic, environmental and social progress for this, and future, generations.

When considering what we can influence via planning decisions, we need to consider the physical infrastructure, for example, we can consider new roads for buses, but not the bus service.  Other things we could influence include: location and types of housing, school places, health services, historic buildings, Green Belt land, employment opportunities, walking routes, open spaces, and more.
